Position Description:

The ideal candidate should have rich experience in fact-checking and will serve as an advisor to OVIS. The candidate should also be able to conduct high-quality research, be interested in social listening techniques, and have an interest in verification work as well as understanding the basics of editorial fact-checking. The advisor should also be able to recommend best practices and strategies to standardize and perfect the OVIS fact-checking process. The role is entirely virtual. While OVIS uses blockchain-based technology, the ideal candidate does not need to know about this technology or cryptocurrency in order to be successful.

Desired Qualities:

• 3+ years of experience in journalism

• Advanced understanding of verification and fact-checking

• Advanced understanding of social listening techniques

• Advanced knowledge of editorial fact-checking 

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills

• Proactive, self-motivated, well organized, thoughtful, and assertive

• Effective time management skills and the ability to work across organizational boundaries

• Excellent problem-solving skills

In this role you:

• Standardize and perfect the OVIS fact-checking process

• Advise the technology team on fact-checking requirements and process flow for the OVIS media platforms which, allows fact-checkers to come to a consensus in real-time

• Advise the chief technology officer (CTO) on what you believe the technology should do.

• Fact-check 15 stories in  90 days.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must have either KSJ certification, comparable certificate, or have at least 3 years of experience

• Excellent English writing abilities

• Able to work under pressure independently, adapt as needed, and meet deadlines
