LINTON JOHNSON

Founder & Chief Visionary Officer

Linton Johnson is the founder of Ovis. He’s also an award-winning journalist and communications executive as well as an entrepreneur with a passion for computer technology, people and planes.

 

​Johnson has spent the last 17 years at the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) - the largest transit system west of the Mississippi.

 

In 2011, the General Manager appointed Johnson to serve as the Strategic Programs Manager in the Office of External Affairs - Executive Office. His primary responsibilities include developing and implementing large scale communications strategies for major district programs. Prior to his appointment, Johnson served as the Chief of Communications and BART's first African-American and first openly-gay spokesperson in the agency's history.

Johnson has a long tradition of starting up successful media organizations. He created and launched BARTtv - the transit industry’s first-ever multimedia online television station. Under his leadership, BARTtv has been nominated for multiple Emmys and other prestigious awards.

Additionally, Johnson was recently honored for creating and launching the Northwestern News Network (NNN) - the university's now flagship, student-run television station. To date, NNN has won multiple Emmys and other awards.

Before joining BART, Johnson spent more than 16 years as an award-winning primetime anchor, investigative reporter/producer, and writer for NBC and ABC affiliates as well as a radio personality popular stations in Arizona and France. ​Johnson graduated with a B.A. in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, which is the nation’s top journalism school.

GIL BINDELGLAS

Co-Founder / Advisory Board

Ovis Co-founder, Gil Bindelglas, is the Head of Business Development. Bindelglas brings to the team more than two decades of experience advising Fortune 500 organizations on how to optimally engage, structure and manage relationships with technology providers.

Bindelglas has become a strong evangelist for blockchain and the many ways distributed ledger technology will change the world.  He now concentrates his practice exclusively on blockchain-related projects. ​

Bindelglas holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Master of Arts in International Affairs.  He is also a principal in Sweet Prince Productions, an independent film and media production company.  He created and produced an award-winning documentary, From Philadelphia to Fallujah, which was broadcast on CBS.

MARK SCHWARTZ

Co-Founder / Advisory Board

Ovis Co-Founder, Mark Schwartz, began his professional journey in 1998 as a technology attorney with Shaw Pittman.  Schwartz concentrated his practice on structuring complex technology relationships between Fortune 500 organizations and their technology providers.  Schwartz guides clients in the formation of the specific blockchain ecosystem, digital asset features and properties, monetary policy, tokenomics, governance, curation, terms and conditions, privacy policy, and the token generating event.

Schwartz earned a JD/MA from The American University, where he graduated Magna cum Laude and a member of The American University Law Review.  Prior to that, Schwartz graduated with highest honors from the University of Florida, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.

SANDEEP J. KHANDHAR, MD, FACS

Advisory Board

Recognized by his peers as a visionary leader in thoracic oncology, Dr. Sandeep J. Khandhar is the Director of Inova Health System's Thoracic Surgery Program and Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Inova Fairfax Hospital. He is a fellowship trained cardiothoracic surgeon with advanced training and expertise in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), a minimally invasive platform to treat lung cancer and other serious thoracic conditions. 

Dr. Khandhar's research and surgical expertise has resulted in multiple national and international presentations and publications.

Dr. Khandhar earned a B.S. Degree in Biomedical Engineering and Medical Degree from Northwestern University and completed his General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery Residencies at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

 

In addition, Dr. Khandhar completed a Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery/Thoracic Oncology Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center. He has been in Northern Virginia operating at Fairfax Hospital for the past 10 years. 

CHARLES WHITAKER

Advisory Board

Charles Whitaker is dean and professor at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications. He also serves on the Ovis Advisory Board.
Whitaker previously served as the Helen Gurley Brown Professor and associate dean of journalism for the school. 

Since joining the Medill faculty in 1993, he has taught courses in news writing, magazine writing, magazine editing and blogging. In addition to teaching in Medill’s graduate and undergraduate programs, Whitaker teaches in Northwestern’s School of Professional Studies and the Medill-Northwestern Journalism Institute (aka, the Cherub program)

Whitaker has received commendations for his work from a number of journalism societies, including the National Association of Black Journalists, Society of Professional Journalists and National Education Writers Association.

Whitaker has served as a judge for the National Magazine Awards and the International Regional Magazine Awards Association. He currently serves on the board of directors of the American Society of Magazine Editors.

Whitaker earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Medill and is a doctoral candidate in Human Development and Social Policy in Northwestern’s School of Education and Social Policy.

BRENDA BOUDREAUX

Advisory Board

Brenda Boudreaux is a Senior Attorney and Practice Group Leader at Jewell Stewart & Pratt PC, an immigration law firm in San Francisco. Brenda has served on the Advisory Council of the American Immigration Lawyers Association Northern California Chapter.

 

Prior to a career in law, Brenda was an award-winning journalist. After receiving her master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University, she worked as a television news reporter/anchor, taught broadcast journalism at her alma mater, and served on the Board of Directors of KQED, one of the largest affiliates of the national Public Broadcasting Service.

JONATHAN ARNOLD

Co-Founder / Advisory Board

Jonathan Arnold is an Ovis’ Co-Founder and Chief of Marketing Strategy. During his decades-long career, Arnold developed business and strategic marketing expertise across many industry segments, including energy optimization, development and construction, financial, healthcare, and television and broadcasting. With origins in broadcast journalism, Arnold gained experience with some of the largest companies in the business, including Gannett Company, Lin Media, and Scripps Television. Arnold holds a B.A. in Communications and an M.B.A. in marketing.

ELSA RAMON

Co-Founder / Advisory Board

Elsa Ramon is also a two-time Emmy-award winning anchor/reporter with a 21-year career as a television journalist. Ramon has held anchor/reporter positions with all of the major US networks throughout her career, and was most recently with CBS Los Angeles. Ramon has now combined her experience as an on-air journalist, with her new passion for educating people about the social impacts of digital currency and blockchain technology.

TRACI GRANT

Co-Founder / Advisory Board

Traci Grant is a co-founder and a veteran journalist who has worked in both broadcast and print media in San Francisco, Boston, Orlando and Hartford, Connecticut.  Grant has been nominated for three Emmy awards and won a Benjamin Fine award for education reporting. She also has worked in the world of space technology as a Public Affairs and Media Relations Officer at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California. Grant graduated with top honors from Northwestern University’s prestigious Medill School of Journalism in Evanston, IL.

MICHAEL FILSON

Co-Founder / Advisory Board

Michael Filson is an Ovis co-founder and an award-winning photojournalist. He also serves as Ovis’ Chief Production Officer. Filson brings nearly two decades of in-depth multimedia production, digital marketing and journalism experience to the team. Filson is an accomplished writer, videographer and editor who has a passion for quickly and accurately bringing projects from ideation to fruition. Filson’s distinguished career includes working for media corporations like NBC, MarketWatch and CNBC.
